PRECAUTIONS, WEATHER, XTERRA EQUIPMENT

Weather Conditions

MXG 2004 was a very muddy experience, make sure you are prepared for what the weather can bring.

Driving Conditions

Beware of the Deer!

- Each year there are approximately 500,000 deer/auto collisions resulting in over 100 deaths and thousands of injuries. Each deer/auto collision costs the auto insurance industry about $2,000, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

REMEMBER - Moose vs. car, moose wins every time !!!

Camping Precautions

Wildlife abounds; deer and beaver are common, wolves and moose are rare but present, and bear are common. When you are camping you must make sure not to store food in your tent. The best thing to do is to hoist it in a tree branch with a rope. You also have to make sure you clean up well after cooking. You do not want remains or scents of food in your camp or on your body. If you come across a mother and her cubs, this is not a photo op! Being around any bear mothering her cubs is the worst situation you could be in. Strange noises to them will help keep them away from you and your camp. Just as a precaution, be aware of your surroundings in the forest.
